By Divya Bhati: WhatsApp is working on a slew of new features to enhance users’ experience on the platform. The Meta-owned instant messaging app recently released features like chat lock and silence unknown callers for its mobile app. Now, moving to its desktop users, the platform is reportedly releasing a new enhanced update for the video and audio calling feature for Windows app.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is gradually releasing an update for the Windows desktop app, which allows users to engage in video and audio calls with up to 32 individuals. Reports suggest that the update is currently available for beta testers and users with WhatsApp beta update 2.23.24.1.0. A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo shows that certain beta testers may receive a message inviting them to try group calling. The message highlights the feature of making video calls to contacts and groups directly from the Windows app, with support for up to 32 people.
In addition, the report reveals that with the new update, WhatsApp may also send certain users a different message offering the ability to make video calls with a maximum of 16 individuals. This feature incorporates the option to share screen content while engaged in video calls, which was previously announced in the WhatsApp beta for Windows 2.2322.1.0 update. Moreover, upon installing the most recent app update, some beta testers may finally be granted access to video messages.
WhatsApp pin message feature
In the meantime, WhatsApp is also working on other features to enhance users’ security and experience. One of the features is a pin message. Spotted by Wabetainfo, the feature will allow users to pin messages in individual or group chat so users can highlight important messages similar to Pin chat features.
The report suggests that this feature is currently available for WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.11 and is expected to be released for everyone in future app updates. Once released for all users, the message pin duration feature will allow WhatsApp users to pin messages and even decide on how long a message remains pinned in a chat.
Users will be able to set a duration, and after that time period, the pinned message will automatically be unpinned. The feature will provide flexibility to users by offering three options for durations: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. Users will also have the freedom to manually unpin the message at any time, even before the chosen duration ends.
