Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra earlier this year at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event. Vivo has just launched the Vivo X90 Pro in India. Both flagship Android smartphones have the best available, cutting-edge hardware and software features.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is, but the Vivo X90 Pro isn’t, the top-end variant in their respective series, which includes three other smartphones. Let’s compare the specifications and features of the Vivo X90 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to see which premium 5G-enabled Android smartphone could be a better choice.
Vivo X90 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Display
The Vivo X90 Pro has a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. The 1260 x 2800 pixels resolution screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2160Hz PWM dimming. The panel supports a 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with a QHD+ screen resolution, HDR10+ support, and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The display can reach a peak brightness of 1750 nits.
While both the displays are flagship-grade, Samsung’s smartphone has a QHD+ display, which is better than the Full HD+ screen on the Vivo smartphone.
Vivo X90 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Performance
The Vivo X90 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, which is paired with the Immortalis-G715 MC11 GPU. The premium phone ships with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The flagship chipset has up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.0 internal storage.
Both premium smartphones are powered by flagship chipsets but from different companies. Although the RAM and storage technologies are identical, the Samsung smartphone can be bought with up to 1TB of storage space, which beats the 256GB storage in the Vivo device that’s available in India.
Vivo X90 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Cameras
The Vivo X90 Pro boasts a triple camera setup on the back with a 50MP primary shooter, accompanied by a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, a large f/1.75 aperture, and OIS support.
The primary camera is paired with a 12MP Sony IMX663 ultrawide lens and a 50MP Sony IMX758 sensor. There’s a 32MP camera at the front for selfies, video calls, and face unlock.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with a quad rear camera setup headlined by a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP2 primary sensor with OIS, a 12MP Dual Pixel ultrawide shooter, a 10MP telephoto lens (f/ 2.4, 3x optical zoom, OIS), and lastly a 10MP periscope telephoto lens (f/ 4.9, 10x optical zoom, OIS). On the front of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, there’s a new 12MP selfie camera with Dual Pixel PDAF and an f/2.2 aperture.
Needless to say, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra races ahead of the Vivo X90 Pro in the photography and videography department. The Vivo X90 Pro does have a larger resolution front-facing camera than the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Vivo X90 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Battery
The Vivo X90 Pro packs a 4870mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging support.
The S23 Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 45W wired fast charging and up to 15W wireless charging. Incidentally, Samsung doesn’t include a charging adapter in the box. This is surprising considering the premium Samsung charges for this smartphone.
Vivo X90 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Which One To Buy?
The Vivo X90 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra are true flagship Android smartphones. Not only do both devices have top-end hardware, but they also share a lot of similarities.
Perhaps the most significant difference is that Vivo opted for the Dimensity 9200 SoC, while Samsung remained loyal to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Other than the chipset, Samsung’s smartphone has a significant edge in the onboard storage category with up to 1TB of storage space.
The price of the 12GB + 256GB storage model of the Vivo X90 Pro in India has been set at ₹84,999. The cost of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with 12GB of RAM and 512GB internal storage is ₹1,34,999. Needless to say, the Vivo X90 Pro offers a lot more value for the money spent, and hence, it is a winner in this comparison.
