Vergil Ortiz Jr. is one of the most exciting prospects at welterweight and is moving himself into contention for a world title fight.

First though he has to get past WBA regular world champion Eimantas Stanionis, in a fight shown live on DAZN.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. boasts a 19-0 professional record with all of those wins coming by way of knockout. 

Championships

Ortiz has a number of title wins to his name already.

In 2018 he defeated Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez for the NABF junior super lightwelght belt, and the following year he beat Antonio Orozco for the WBA Gold World welterweight championship.

In 2021 he secured the WBO International welterweight belt against Maurice Hooker.

Biggest win

Ortiz Jr. becomes WBO International welterweight champion; March 20, 2021

In March two years ago, Ortiz came up against Maurice Hooker, a former super lightweight world champion who posed a dangerous threat.

The pair met at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, in what could be considered the biggest fight of Ortiz’s career so far.

Up against Hooker he was able to stop the American in the seventh round after delivering a knockout blow, true to form.

Ortiz was back in the ring just five months later against another Baltic figher, Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

The Lithuanian is a credible opponent, with a number of championships to his name over the course of his career.

However against Ortiz he was another knockout victim, losing in the eighth.
