India Becomes 2nd Biggest Mobile Manufacturing Country

Locally manufactured mobile phone shipments crossed the 2 billion cumulative units mark under the “Make in India” initiative during 2014-2022, registering a 23 per cent CAGR, a new report said on Monday. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research’s “Made in India” service report, this was driven by huge internal demand, increasing digital literacy and the government’s push. India has also become the second-biggest mobile phone-producing country in the world.

Govt Open To Giving More Time To Global Firms For Local Manufacturing Of Laptops, PCs

In a bid to encourage Apple, HP, Dell and other global companies, the government is ready to extend the timeline needed to set up local manufacturing facilities in the country, the media has reported. This comes days after the government imposed restrictions on the import of laptops, tablets, servers and other Personal Computers (PCs), in an attempt to give a push to local manufacturing. The manufacturers are said to have sought up to 12 months to set up manufacturing facilities in India.

Key iPhone Assembler Foxconn’s Q2 Revenue Falls 1 Per Cent

Key iPhone assembler Foxconn has reported one per cent fall in its second quarter (Q2) net profit amid weak demand for electronics globally. The company, also the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, beat analysts’ forecasts – its net profit for the April-June quarter fell to T$33 billion (or $1.0 billion) from a revised T$33.29 billion in the same period last year. The company performed better than the average forecast of TWD 25.57 billion (or Rs 6,648 crore) profit from 13 analysts, according to Refinitiv, as reported by news agency Reuters.
