Of course, it is not any random lake. So what’s so special, you may ask? Well. Chembra Lake is a heart-shaped lake nestled amid lush green hills. Already dreaming of a romantic getaway with your partner? You can blame the shape of this popular lake. Speaking of the shape, it is also called ‘Hridayasaras’ or Heart Lake.

So dreamy, right? No wonder this heart-shaped lake located near the town of Kalpetta is a popular tourist attraction. You will, however, have to trek for about 3.5 km (one side) to soak in the mesmerising view of the picturesque delight that Chembra Lake is. The moderate trek begins from the Forest Department base camp. You can reach there by road. The trek timings are 7.00 am to 5.00 pm, according to the Kerala Tourism website. You must arrive before 2.00 pm to be able to get permission for the Chembra Lake trek.
The best time to visit is August to May as the weather is usually moderate during this period. So, when you plan that highly-anticipated Kerala vacation, ensure you add Wayanad to the itinerary and witness this natural splendour.
Wayanad, for the uninitiated, is a picturesque hill station in Kerala, replete with panoramic views for you to soak in. Chembra Lake is just one of the many gems that this place boasts of. Kuruvadweep (a river island), Banasura Dam, Pookode Lake, Soochipara waterfalls, Meenmutty waterfalls are some of the must-visit places in Wayanad.
How to reach Wayanad?
Calicut International Airport, located around 80 km away, is the nearest airport to Wayanad. If you want to take the railway route, take a train to Kozhikode and then cover a distance of over 80km to reach Wayanad.
