Taking strict note of property tax defaulters, Commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Shena Aggarwal directed the zonal commissioners to start issuing sealing notices to the defaulters and commence a sealing drive if the owners fail to pay the pending dues.

The directions were issued during a meeting held at the Zone D office on Friday. Similar instructions were also issued regarding defaulters who have failed to pay pending water-sewer user charges in the past. The officials were directed to take strict action and snap the connections if the defaulters fail to clear the dues.

Joint Commissioners Kulpreet Singh, Ankur Mahindroo, Sonam Chaudhary, Zonal Commissioners Neeraj Jain, Jasdev Sekhon among others were present in the meeting.

The officials have also been directed to initiate the process to recover pending rent amounts of the properties that were leased out or given on rent by the civic body.

Aggarwal stated that the civic body has made a record collection of property taxes during 2022-23 (Rs 122.45 crore). However, a large number of property owners failed to submit the tax in the past. The officials have been directed to prepare a list of defaulters and issue notices at the earliest.

It has been made mandatory for the residents to obtain a unique identification (UID) number of their properties from the civic body and the GIS mapping of properties will help the authorities identify the defaulters.

She appealed to the residents to pay the taxes on time to avoid penalties. The collected amount is used to provide basic amenities to the residents and for taking up development works in the city.
