The company has delivered 5,000 metric tonnes of Commercial Low Carbon Ammonia to the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), marking the first introduction of Low Carbon Ammonia to the Indian fertilizer market.

Sabic AN’s shipment, originating from Jubail, Saudi Arabia, was received by IFFCO, which will be the first Indian company to use low carbon Ammonia for fertilizer manufacture in line with India’s goal of becoming net-zero by 2070.

Abdulrahman Shamsaddin, CEO of Sabic AN, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating low-carbon solutions for the world and working with customers to help them achieve net-zero emission targets. Sabic AN has publicly pledged to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and recognizes that customers in India can approach their carbon-neutrality goals by using low-carbon ammonia. Sabic’s shipment to India is a significant milestone that demonstrates its commitment to creating sustainable solutions for the world.

Sabic AN has also collaborated with Aramco and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) to ship low-carbon ammonia to Japan in 2020. The company received the world’s first independent certification of Low-Carbon ammonia and clean hydrogen production from TÃœV Rheinland, a major independent testing, inspection, and certification agency based in Germany, in 2022.

In addition, Sabic AN and Aramco shipped the world’s first commercial cargo of 25 thousand metric tonnes of independently verified Low Carbon Ammonia to South Korea last December. These shipments demonstrate Sabic AN’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the global fertilizer market.

Low-carbon ammonia is an alternative to traditional ammonia, which is energy-intensive and emits large amounts of carbon dioxide. Low-carbon ammonia production uses renewable energy sources, including solar and wind power, and carbon capture and storage technologies to minimize carbon emissions. This sustainable method of ammonia production is gaining momentum in the fertilizer industry worldwide.

Sabic AN’s introduction of Low Carbon Ammonia to India’s fertilizer market is a significant step towards achieving a sustainable future. By supporting India’s net-zero goal, Sabic AN is helping to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental responsibility.

The company’s commitment to creating sustainable solutions for the world is commendable, and its efforts to introduce low carbon ammonia to the global fertiliser market are vital in the fight against climate change.
