Rajasthan Royals star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created history on Sunday (April 30) during his team’s IPL 2023 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. The 36-year-old spinner, who has also played for teams like CSK, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, became only the second Indian to take 300 or more wickets in T20s.

With 311 wickets from 273 T20 appearances, Chahal leads the chart of leading Indian wicket-takers, and Ashwin is at No. 2 with 300 scalps. The game against MI was his 193rd in the IPL, and he has now equaled Lasith Malinga’s tally of 170 wickets to become the third-joint-leading wicket-taker in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.
Malinga dismissed 170 batters in 122 wickets and stood at the top of the wickettakers chart till last year, before DJ Bravo broke his record. In the list of leading wicket-takers in the IPL, Bravo sits at the top with 183 wickets to his name from 161 games, followed by Chahal, who has managed to get rid of 178 batters in 140 matches.
There are four bowlers who have picked up 170 wickets. Apart from Malinga and Ashwin, LSG spinner Amit Mishra and MI’s Piyush Chawla have the same number of wickets in 159 and 173 matches, respectively.
