The Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission at Khar in Mumbai has completed hundred years. As part of the centenary celebrations, the organisation founded by Swami Vivekananda will hold a series of programmes beginning Friday.
“To celebrate the centenary, the organisation has organised a year-long programme beginning with the inaugural function to be held from April 21 to 23,” RKM president Swami Satyadevananda said.
A special souvenir to commemorate the illustrious journey of hundred years will be released by Swami Gautamananda Maharaj, vice-president of RKM Belur. The programme will be held at the Rangsharda Auditorium in Bandra (West) on Friday and Sunday, whereas the Saturday programme will be held at RKM Khar.
The highlight of the celebrations will be a three-day discourse by Swami Sarvapriyananda, minister-in-charge of Vedanta Society, New York, on April 24, 25 and 26. The talks will be held at 6.30pm onwards at the St Andrew’s Auditorium in Bandra (West).
A renowned speaker on vedanta, Swami Sarvapriyananda has a huge following across the world. He will speak on topics such as Who am I? An enquiry based on Taittiriya Upanishad; non-dual realisation based on the Ashtavakra Samhita; and words of master Sri Ramakrishna’s advaitic teachings.
The day-long sessions from April 21 to 23 will also see senior RKM monks from various parts of India deliver a series of talks.
On Friday, Swami Muktidananda, president of the Mysuru Ramakrishna Ashram, will deliver a talk on the spiritual strength and universal appeal of the Ramakrishna movement. Swami Atmapriyananda, pro-chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational Research Institute, Belur Math, will talk on the “Ramakrishna ideal according to Swami Vivekananda”. While Swami Sarvalokananda, secretary of RKM Narendrapur, will reflect on Mumbai RKM&M in the light of its 100 years. Day one will see Swami Sarvapriyananda giving an insight into Swami Vivekananda’s “vedantic vision and mission”.
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais will attend the inaugural session on Friday as chief guest.
On Saturday, which marks the centenary day, a lecture by RKM Belur Math general secretary Swami Suvirananda Maharaj will outline the contribution of the Mumbai centre. It will be followed by reminiscences by Swami Gautamananda Maharaj.
Lessons learnt from Mumbai RKM will be a subject dwelt upon by Swami Tyagananda, minister in-charge of Ramakrishna Vedanta Society, Boston, US. Other speakers on the third day include Swami Nikhileshwarananda, president RKM Rajkot; Swami Shuddidananda, president of Advaita Ashrama Mayavati, Uttarakhand; Swami Vishnupadananda, secretary of RKM Aurangabad; Swami Nityasthananda of RKM Basavanagudi, Bengaluru; and Swami Muktinathananda, president of RKM Lucknow.
The chief guest, Dr R Chidambaram, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, will also address the congregation on Sunday.
