Mobile Snatchers’ Gang Busted; 114 Phones Recovered | Surat News

Surat: The Rander police busted a gang of mobile snatchers and recovered 114 phones worth Rs 11 lakh from the four arrested people.
The recovery has solved 31 mobile snatching offences registered in different police stations in the city.
Police commissioner Ajay Tomar said of the four, two are snatchers while two others were receivers who were caught before they could send the booty to Bengaluru.
“The snatchers targeted people at deserted places between 6am and 9m and 4pm and 7pm during the peak hours. They would snatch mobiles from walkers, bike riders and steal those phones kept carelessly in shops,” Tomar added.
Rander police inspector AS Sonara told TOI: “We identified the gang members after scanning CCTVs. This led to the arrest of Jamil Sha (Sai Fakir), a vegetable vendor, and Arbaz alias Manjaro Navsad Pathan, who worked in a chicken shop. After snatching the phones, they would hand them to Shahid alias Liti Saiyed who played a broker between the snatchers and receiver. The main receiver was Mohammad Hussain alias Toshif Shabbir Saiyed who then sold them in other cities.”
Police sources said that Shahid would get Rs 200 per mobile as a commission. Hussain, who posed as an AC technician had hidden the mobiles in a parcel to be sent to Bengaluru
Tomar said the mobiles will be returned to their rightful owners.
This is the second mobile snatchers gang busted within a month.
