MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi Appointed India’s Permanent Representative To UN In Geneva

New Delhi: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi has been named as India’s upcoming Permanent Representative to the United Nations and various international organisations in Geneva. 

Bagchi assumed the role of spokesperson in March 2021, presiding over a dynamic period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the tense standoff with China in eastern Ladakh, and India’s hosting of the G20 Summit in September this year. 

“Arindam Bagchi (IFS:1995), presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador/Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva,” an MEA release said.

Bagchi is expected to take up the assignment shortly, as per the release. 

Bagchi, an officer of the 1995 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), currently holds the position of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Previously, Bagchi has held positions including Ambassador to Croatia and Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
