I am more than happy to educate you that most image sensors are ANALOG circuit and analog doesn’t need cutting-edge process. You are comparing apples and oranges.
and for the memory, it’s the same. CIS, MEMS, Flash, RF, they need different processes. Samsung fkd up with logic process.
The more I see the Pixel Fold, the more I like it. Would get it in white as I enjoyed the silver iPhone X I had with a clear case before selling it after 3 months because battery life was so bad. I need to wait another 6 months to get the Pixel Fold at half the price or so. No way I’m paying $1,800 for this. I’m still paying off my Flip 3 from 2 years ago for another year.
Google needs to push for trade-in deals. The reason I like it is because it’s small when closed like a Find N and N2. The big bezels don’t really bother me. I’m hoping Zvelsiem makes a faux leather case for it. Covers the hinge completely. I really enjoy the feel of their cases. They’re usually out of stock with their Z Fold/Flip cases.
On AT&T, they’re very selective with which phones working on their 5G network, so I can’t import an Oppo Find N2 or vivo X Flip. My only foldable choices are really from Samsung and maybe Motorola. At least Pixel Fold offers a different alternative for those who don’t want Samsung. This is really what the Surface Duo 1 and 2 should’ve been.
This Pixel Fold was delayed for nearly 2 years. It was supposed to come out in late-2021 but Google focused pushing the Pixel 6 series more. I guess it was worth the wait like Top Gun: Maverick.

This is worth 1050 or 1100 best. Basically two Pixel 7 Pros merged into a foldable. Tecno Phanton Fold better and cheaper at cost of UI

… moreLiterally nobody cares about this stuff anymore. All flagships perform the same, i can’t tell the difference between exynos 2100 or snapdragon or whatever. What does bother me about this device is the outdated design compared to z fold 4

Luke, 4 hours agoNot seeing any issues myself with 6 Pro. Very stable so farBut many on first week had to return theirs because screen flickering , overheating, bad signal , system crash, huge battery drain etc

I had expected a few new features, but it seems as if Samsung has already introduced everything possible before the competition. The only new feature is the interpreter, but that looks more like something new just for the sake of offering something new.
What I like is the 5x zoom which I miss on Z Fold.
And I like that it is IPX8-rated, just wondering whether Google is using a Samsung patent for that.
I don’t see this device as a serious competitor to Z Fold, especially at that price, but I believe in the US a few people would prefer a US product over one from Korea.

Why Would Anyone Pay $1800 For This? Like You Can Get Two Solid Flagship With That Price Or Less And Save Yourself From Crease And Newly Introduce Bezel.

… moreISP has way less impact than you think.
Look at pixel 3 vs 3a. Same imx363 + same software , just different ISP.
Difference was not even 5%. 99% would not even spot different between photos.
Qualcomm Spectra would not change the issues seen on photos taken by pixel. These issues exost because google wants. There is zero to do with hardware.
There are other brands that take photos with same issues.
You can give apsc sensor and 8g2 to pixel 8, photos would have same issues of pixel 7.

… moreI think it is funny ppl always blame samsung for 8xx chips. But love to see when phone uses ram/staorage made by same Samsung Semicon. Same factories that are also making the isocell sensors.
There are chips from 4xx/6xx/7xx that were made by Samsung. Nobody said anything.
By the way, 810 was made at TSMC.
Y’all must understand, while bezels whiners are laughable, chipset whiners are dead right.
Tensor G2 is based on Exynos 2100. Using an Exynos architecture is already a bad decision (probably the worst in Pixel history) but what about a 2.5 years old Exynos architecture?
Exynos 2100 was announced back in late 2020, to be used the following year in S21 series.
In 2021 it performed similarly to the SD888 but that Snapdragon was a pretty bad chip to begin with (it was also from the infamous Samsung foundries).
In 2022 Samsung confirmed SOC manufacturing isn’t something they can handle, with the infamous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm finally stepped in and tasked TSMC to handle S8+ Gen 1 manufacturing.
In late 2022, Samsung finally dropped the ball and supposedly gave up on Exynos, the 2300 not even being announced let alone launched, with S23 series finally escaping the Exynos curse around the globe.
Rumor has it, Exynos 2300 would’ve been a whole gen behind S8 Gen2 (So Pixel 8 and Tensor G3 will be two whole gens behind S8 Gen3 devices)
You have to understand, the difference with Snapdragon chipsets wasn’t just in Geekbench numbers.
We’re talking worse pictures quality across the board, worse battery life, worse thermal management…and devices were sold as if they were the same as their Snapdragon peers.
Exynos really is a cursed name in tech.
One can only wonder what a Pixel 7 Pro camera woud put out even with a vanilla S8+ Gen 1. Whatever customization Google is doing, I don’t believe it can be worth it when the base SOC is such dumpster fire.
But Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are hundreds cheaper than competition, so to some it might justify that poor chipset choice. Not to me, I’ll gladly pay a couple hundreds more for a current gen SOC.
But now, today on May 10 2023, Google announced a shiny new foldable for 1800 bucks, obviously a device aimed at enthusiasts who tend to want the most bleeding edge stuff.
I’m not sure how that crowd will react to having a 2.5 years old rebadged Exynos under the hood.
It seems Pixel 4 was the last gen with a proper flagship chipset, also the last to use the distinctive XL moniker.
But hey at least we can hope to finally get flagship pictures on a foldable, since no foldable seems to get flagship camera hardware but Google apparently doesn’t need that to achieve great results.

1800 dollars for an exynos that is like a hot stove and edges to land a plane and no protection against dust? this is hilarious!! Google leaves the Hardware
