Delhi News Live Updates, May 17, 2023: The Supreme Court Wednesday reserved its verdict on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s plea challenging the nominations of 10 ‘aldermen’ by Lieutenant Governor LG Saxena to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, The court observed that giving power to L-G Saxena to nominate aldermen in the House means he can “destabilise elected civic body,” news agency PTI reported.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala said, “Is the nomination of 12 specialised people in MCD is of that much concern to the Centre? Actually, giving this power to the LG would effectively mean that he can destabilise the democratically elected Municipal Committees because they (aldermen) will have voting powers also”, PTI reported.

However, a mapping of the forest through a drone led police to discover another body with bullet injuries, making it a double murder case.
Police had received a call on July 15, 2020, stating that a man with gunshot injuries was lying near Freedom Fighter Colony. The then DCP (South), Atul Kumar Thakur, had said teams rushed to the spot and found that the man, identified as Abdul Ali, had been shifted to AIIMS and declared dead on arrival.
From next month, Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open for public viewing for six days a week. This is for the first time that it will open its doors for public viewing for six days, as previously, it would open for five days every week, barring Mondays and Tuesdays. The tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan will be available from Tuesday to Sunday – except on gazetted holidays – in seven time slots between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm, the President’s office said in a statement Tuesday.
