Ahmedabad: The registration process for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate courses has been extended to May 5 as many students could not register within the earlier deadline. However, sources said that none of the state universities have officially announced participation in the CUET so far.
Till date, 16.85 lakh students have registered for the test, which will be conducted from May 21-31 by the National Testing Agency.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) began conducting CUET in 2022. Sources said that in the first year, 9.9 lakh of the 12.50 lakh registered students had taken the exam. In 2022, 90 universities participated in CUET, while this year the number has increased to 242.
According to sources, 13 lakh of the total registered students have paid their exam fees. Sources said that 6.51 lakh students who have registered so far are females while 7.48 lakh are male students. Sources said that top five most preferred universities include Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Allahabad, Baba Saheb Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia University.
