Visakhapatnam: The state government has decided to bring all Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) in Andhra Pradesh under the umbrella of CBSE affiliation from this academic year.
Principal secretary (school education) Praveen Prakash issued an order to this effect on Friday.
This will transform all the KGBV schools into globally competitive English medium CBSE schools from the 2023-24 academic session.
“The class VIII students in the 2022-23 academic year were provided with all the required support to make them ready for the CBSE 10th class examination scheduled in 2025. They were given bilingual NCERT textbooks to improve the comprehension of the students.
“The class VIII were also given computer tabs with fully loaded Byju’s content with best self-explanatory videos, animations, and graphic contents costing Rs 30,000 per tab,” said Prakash.
“The KGBVs have been established in the educationally backward mandals to provide the girl children belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward castes, minority and below the poverty line families with best educational facilities. The KGBVs are 100% residential school set-up, where the girl children are handed over to the government at a minor age for the better educational career,” said Prakash.
He said that the government has supplied sufficient books to class VIII students and 17 lakh books are kept in reserve.
He suspended four teachers during his visit to Regulapadu KGBV in Veeraghattam mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam district on Friday. The principal secretary found that not even a single student of class VIII was given the semester-II mathematics textbook which was supposed to be given in November 2022.
Further the students were subjected to write four assessments without providing the basic textbook and he termed it as a severe injustice to the students.
