Market tracker IDC India said the expected steep Q1 decline was due to an inventory correction. “We expect Apple to do heavy stocking in Q3 … We are anticipating a much steeper decline for Windows PCs,” said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president, IDC India.
Globally, the Cupertino, California-based company’s PC shipments declined 40.5% on-year in Q1 2023, underperforming a 29% fall for the overall market, on account of weak demand, excess inventory and worsening macroeconomic climate, as per an IDC report. PCs contribute roughly 10% to Apple’s overall revenue.
In the Indian PC market led by HP, Apple still does not feature in the top five PC brands. In the fourth quarter of 2022, HP had a 32.6% market share, compared with Apple’s 5.4%, according to IDC. Apple’s PC segment growth in India in recent years has been supported by a strong uptake in the enterprise segment. In 2021, enterprise shipments of Macs grew 300% on-year, shipping around 70,000 units in the commercial segment.
However, the growth in shipments to the enterprise segment moderated to 16% in 2022, accounting for around 10% of the units shipped in total in India.
