Remembering first Indian vice-chancellor of PU
Sir Sultan Ahmed, a renowned barrister, became the first Indian vice chancellor of Patna University 100 years ago. During his tenure, several historic academic institutions, including Patna Science College, Bihar College of Engineering, Prince of Wales Medical College and Hospital, and Bihar and Orissa Veterinary College, were established. Ahmed’s contribution to the growth of the university is considered phenomenal. The university, which began in a wing of the Patna High Court building, found a permanent home in a new university building in the 1920s.
IIT Madras Pravartak Foundation to offer training in generative AI, drone pilot training to freshers
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation is offering training in new age skills such as generative AI, prompt engineering, data analytics, machine learning, and drone pilot training for freshers. The courses will be conducted in batches of 30 to 50 students and will last from four to eight weeks. The foundation has signed an MoU with five startups to offer these programs in niche areas. The collaboration aims to provide practitioners’ expertise and develop solutions for artificial intelligence and data science. Registration details are available for interested candidates.
SpiceJet fined by the DGCA over pilot training inadequacies
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has penalized SpiceJet, an Indian airline, for alleged deficiencies in pilot training. The DGCA has imposed a penalty of twenty lakhs on the airline and suspended its head of training for three months. The airline was found to be operating flights with pilots who had not complied with certain training requirements. This is not the first time SpiceJet has faced action from the DGCA, as they had previously imposed restrictions on the airline due to safety concerns.
