By Sujay Ghosh: The West Bengal State Transport department has decided to run 100 air-conditioned (AC) buses for the convenience of passengers and daily commuters during the summer season. These buses will run during office hours on high demand routes including Howrah Station, Sealdah, Ultadanga, Sector Five, Dharmatala, Ruby, Jadavpur.

West Bengal Transport Minister, Snehashish Chakraborty said, “100 more AC buses will be put on the roads in phases between the last week of this month and May on those routes which have high demand during office hours during summer. This is to provide comfort to the daily commuters.”

According to the sources, a plan has been chalked out to run AC buses on the road in a phased manner by the last week of April. More than 100 government buses will run throughout April and May to ease the pressure on the city’s transport services.

According to Transport Department sources, around 60 per cent of AC buses are still in the bus depot, out of which 25 of 63 Volvo buses are plying on the roads. Of the remaining 350 Ashok Leyland buses, 130 buses run on the road.

Multiple AC buses are under maintenance at different depots. Due to increasing demand, the state transport department has decided to run all these buses on the road.
